James Wood
This volume features the memoirs of James (Jim) Wood III (1927-2024) of Braewold Farm, located in Bedford, New York. Jim’s writings, authored over many years, tell of his almost eight decades living on the farm his ancestors first purchased in 1809, as well as his life following Braewold’s sale in 2005. Jim describes his childhood years, education, Navy service, career and investment endeavors, social and recreational activities, travels, and nonprofit and community service. Highlighted is Jim’s life with his wife of 70 years, Twink, and their children, Emily and Steve. Life in the town of Bedford and environs during the Great Depression and World War II is discussed, and the book goes into considerable detail as to the varied farming activities carried on at Braewold Farm, beginning in the earliest decades of the nineteenth century. Also included are short biographies of many of Jim’s ancestors-many of whom were prominent members of their community and leaders within their Quaker faith-as well as descriptions of the homes they built on and adjacent to Braewold Farm, collectively known as The Woodpile and today a landmark historic district. The volume includes over 300 photographs and illustrations, which well illuminate Jim’s stories and family history. Appendices include the journals of the author’s grandfather, James Wood II (1839-1925), as well as selected essays describing the lives and experiences of other Wood family members.Books purchased through this link are printed in IngramSpark’s 'ULTRA-PREMIUM' laser mode, which produces moderately superior image quality and pages with a subtle satin finish and sheen.
