España ha constituido durante siglos un caso excepcional en la historia intelectual y cultural europea. Lo ha sido en parte por sus errores e insuficiencias intrínsecos. No hay duda de que optó con frecuencia por caminos que eran incompatibles con el paradigma del discurso moderno. En este libro se propone una reflexión en torno a algunos de los componentes esenciales de la historia intelectual moderna europea y española en particular. España ha estado con frecuencia en los aledaños del contexto internacional pero el desarrollo y la orientación de sus eventos colectivos han estado vinculados a las causas y condicionamientos generales. Es esa la vinculación que se pretende poner de manifiesto para contribuir a una elucidación más profunda de la historia intelectual española y a la vez abrir un debate renovado sobre aspectos nucleares del discurso cultural contemporáneo.
