A través de sus páginas nos encontramos con un mundo dominado por unas costumbres que apenas cambian y caracterizado principalmente por las apariencias y la indolencia de los personajes. El abuelo del rey, novela con la que Miró inicia su madurez literaria, es así un retrato moral sobre el paso del tiempo y su efecto en todo lo que lo rodea.
