El haiku es una forma poética breve que tuvo su apogeo en Japón durante el período Edo (1603-1868), aunque existen composiciones anteriores. Tradicionalmente, esta estructura poética consta de tres líneas con un esquema de sílabas de 5-7-5, sumando un total de 17. A diferencia de otras formas de poesía, el haiku no rima y se centra en capturar un momento efímero o una experiencia sensorial con una simplicidad y profundidad únicas. Su esencia radica en su capacidad para evocar emociones y una profunda apreciación del momento presente a través de imágenes sencillas y precisas. Es, sin duda, la variedad literaria en la que más amor y respeto se muestra por la naturaleza. Aunque el haiku ha trascendido las fronteras japonesas e inspirando a poetas de diversas culturas, en esta antología nos hemos centrado en las composición de más de 150 maestros nipones de todos los tiempos. El libro incluye más de quinientos haikus, que sirven como un excelente muestrario de esta bella forma de expresión poética.
